Pasquale Casillo: dal Re del Grano a Re del Calcio

Pasquale Casillo nasce nell’ottobre del 1948 in provincia di Napoli ed è figlio di Gennaro Casillo, imprenditore della frutta secca e dei cereali.

Nel 1989 il gruppo imprenditoriale, guidato insieme al fratello minore Aniello, diventa il primo d’Europa per la macinazione dei cereali.

Dopo essersi trasferito a Foggia, il giovane Casillo, nel giro di poco tempo, a 25 anni, costruì il suo El Dorado divenendo uno dei più importanti commercianti di grano d’Europa. Da quel momento nell’immaginario della gente, Pasquale era il “re del grano”.

Nel corso della sua carriera sportiva, a Foggia l’imprenditore ha regalato pagine indelebili al mondo del calcio rossonero formando un trio vincente con il dirigente Peppino Pavone e l’allenatore boemo Zdenek Zeman. Nella stagione calcistica ’90-’91 la squadra, guidata da Zeman, venne promossa in serie A.

Dopo l’esperienza foggiana, Casillo è stato proprietario anche di Football Club Sangiuseppese, Salernitana e Bologna, mentre tra il 2002 e il 2004, è stato il presidente dell’Avellino.

Nell’estate 2010, Casillo ritornò a Foggia con il suo amico, nonché allenatore Zeman e Giuseppe Pavone come direttore sportivo.

L’obiettivo era riportare il club almeno in Serie B ma la squadra non andò oltre il sesto posto in Lega Pro, venendo esclusa dai playoff.

L’Accusa di Associazione Mafiosa

Il 19 settembre del 1993 Pasquale Casillo fu indagato per concorso esterno in associazione mafiosa.

Chi lo aveva incriminato fu il pentito camorrista Pasquale Galasso, accusandolo di avere rapporti con il capo della camorra, Carmine Alfieri, a cui era affiliato.

Immediatamente furono messe sotto sequestro tutte le società del gruppo che faceva riferimento a Casillo.

Il 21 aprile del 1994 Casillo venne arrestato. «Don Pasquale», così era soprannominato, aveva 46 anni e il suo fatturato era di 2.300 miliardi di vecchie lire, una cifra considerevole che lo metteva tra i più importanti gruppi industriali del nostro Paese.

Casillo rimase in carcere undici mesi, dichiarandosi innocente e chiedendo, nel 1994, di essere processato immediatamente. Questo non avvenne e Pasquale Casillo fu al centro di una serie lunghissima di rinvii legati alla difficoltà nel determinare la competenza del tribunale di riferimento.

Infatti si passò dal Tribunale di Napoli a quello di Bari per poi finire a Roma ed infine individuare il tribunale di competenza nel tribunale di Nola, in provincia di Napoli.

L’Assoluzione

Dopo 13 anni, nel 2007, Pasquale Casillo, il re del grano e il patron del Foggia Calcio, fu assolto dall’accusa di associazione mafiosa. La sentenza, emessa dal Tribunale di Nola, in provincia di Napoli, aveva confermato quanto richiesto dallo stesso Pubblico ministero: assoluzione per non aver commesso il fatto.

Ma l’imprenditore campano non vede finire i propri guai con la giustizia.

Pur assolto dall’accusa di concorso esterno in associazione di stampo mafioso, per l’imprenditore campano rimase, anche dopo l’arresto l’impossibilità di recuperare le proprie aziende che sono ancora sotto tutela di un amministratore giudiziario.

Dopo anni di ingiusta detenzione, Pasquale Casillo può tornare a essere un uomo libero.

Gli Ultimi Anni di Vita

Negli ultimi dieci anni Casillo ha rappresentato l’immagine dell’uomo solo, stanco e invecchiato.

Alle prese con i fantasmi del passato e le battaglie giudiziarie, scrisse una lettera al presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella, per invocare un risarcimento morale:

“Sono Pasquale Casillo, imprenditore italiano attivo nel settore del grano, del calcio e del commercio, salito agli onori della cronaca alla fine degli anni ’80”, scriveva. “La lettera che mi pregio di inviarvi, è stata spedita dalla Confindustria di Foggia, mia città adottiva , a tutti i loro associati.

La invio affinché venga fatta chiarezza una volta per tutte, sulle mie vicende giudiziarie e soprattutto personali. Dopo 20 anni di ingiusta persecuzione subita da parte dello Stato Italiano, tutte le accuse nei miei confronti sono cadute e sono andate in prescrizione, senza che si arrivasse nemmeno ad un solo processo contro di me!

Il mio è l’accorato appello di un cittadino italiano, che dopo tanti anni di battaglia, ha visto restituita la sua dignità di uomo, padre ed imprenditore. La mia storia, alla fine, è una storia di riscatto, nonostante tutto“.

A 71 anni, nel settembre del 2020, il “Re del grano” è venuto a mancare: una vita travagliata, ricca di successi imprenditoriali, ma segnata soprattutto da uno dei peggiori casi di malagiustizia avvenuti in Italia.
